Students need to be able to know that the intersection of two lines is a point that satisfies both equations and is also known as the solution. When referring to the intersection of two lines, it is also called a system of equations. Students must be able to graph an equation in the form  y = mx + b.

The two lines graphed on the coordinate grid can each be represented by an equation.

 

 

(9) Expressions, equations, and relationships. The student applies mathematical process standards to use multiple representations to develop foundational concepts of simultaneous linear equations.

The student is expected to identify and verify the values of x and y that simultaneously satisfy two linear equations in the form y = mx + b from the intersections of the graphed equations.
