T.i.P.S.

  • Lightbulb With this standard, students will be actually representing numeric data that is provided to them in a variety of graphs including dot plots, stem-and-leaf plots, histograms, and box plots. It is best practice for students to be given a set of data, and to represent in each of these four ways. This will build their understanding, and they will begin to see the connections between all of these data representations. This standard deals only with the actual representation piece, so students will not be asked questions regarding the data, only how to represent it correctly.

Example

  • Mrs. Smith gave a science exam last week. The dot plot below shows the scores her 6th period class received.
