T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb Students must be able to compare whole numbers, place those numbers in a specified order (least to greatest or greatest to least), and create and use representations (such as those using the symbols >, <, or =) to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.

Example

  • The estimated population of Arlington was 383,204 in 2014. At the same time, the estimated population of Corpus Christi was 320,434 and the estimated population of El Paso was 679,036. List these populations in order from greatest to least by writing two different inequalities representing the comparisons of the population figures.

TEKS

  •
4.2 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to represent, compare, and order whole numbers and decimals and understand relationships related to place value. The student is expected to:

    (C) compare and order whole numbers to 1,000,000,000 and represent comparisons using the symbols >, <, or =
