T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb Students must be able to determine the value of any digit in whole numbers through one billion and in decimals to the hundredths place. They must know how to write those numbers in expanded notation. They must be able to create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas.

Example

  • Which number has a 9 in the ten millions place and a 7 in the tenths place? Use expanded notation to explain your thinking and to show why the other answer choices are not correct.

    A)    985,417, 039.27
    B)    991,745,039.72
    C)    991,547,039.27

TEKS

  •
4.2 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to represent, compare, and order whole numbers and decimals and understand relationships related to place value. The student is expected to:

    (B) represent the value of the digit in whole numbers through 1,000,000,000 and decimals to the hundredths using expanded notation and numerals
