In Kindergarten

  • Previously in Kindergarten, students did not explore the concepts of fractions as this concept is first introduced in first grade.

In First Grade

In Second Grade

  • In second grade, students will explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part, and the fewer the parts, the larger the whole. The concept of partitioning objects into equal parts and naming those parts a halves, fourths, sixths, and eighths as well as identify example and non-examples of halves, fourths, and eighths. Additionally, students will use concrete models to count parts of a whole beyond one whole and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole.
