T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb The student must be able to use the greater than symbol (>); the less than symbol (<); and the equal to symbol (=) to record the results of their comparison of two whole numbers up to 100.  Students should be ready to explain their thinking using a place value model or an open number line.

Example

  • a)    Compare the base ten blocks and use >, <, or = to complete the number sentence. Explain your thinking.

     example

    b)    Terry has 25 marbles. Will has 16 marbles. Who has more marbles? Use <, >, or = to complete the number sentence and explain your thinking.

TEKS

  • 1.2 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to represent and compare whole numbers, the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers, and relationships within the numeration system related to place value. The student is expected to:

    (G) represent the comparison of two numbers to 100 using the symbols >, <, or =.
