T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb Students must be able to solve two step multiplication and division problems based on the information given. They must use strategies such as drawing pictures, applying properties of multiplication, or recalling basic facts to solve problems.

Example

  • Keone has 14 baseball cards. His mom gives him 10 more. Each plastic page protector holds four cards.
Draw a model and write a number sentence that can be used to find the number of plastic pages he will need for his cards.

TEKS

  • Readiness Standard

3.4 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole number computations in order to solve problems with efficiency and accuracy. The student is expected to:

    (K) solve one-step and two-step problems involving multiplication and division within 100 using strategies based on objects; pictorial models, including arrays, area models, and equal groups; properties of operations; or recall of facts
